Diabetes

Many new and exciting treatments exist for the management of diabetes. Similarly, many older methods work very well but are often ignored. Our diabetic patients are encouraged to follow the most careful low carbohydrate diet possible, consider supplements such as cinnamon and chromium, and monitor themselves very carefully and frequently. Consultation with endocrinology is sometimes necessary. The most crucial approach for diabetes is risk management. There are ways to head off the problem before it becomes a full-blown illness by identifying pre-diabetic and pre-prediabetic stages. Regenerative Medicine

The ability of the body to heal itself is remarkable. With many orthopedic problems such as arthritis and tendinitis, it is been found that injections of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can be extremely beneficial in helping the body heal itself. As opposed to local anesthetic injections would stop the pain temporarily or steroid injections which reduce inflammation and pain, but sometimes prevent healing, Platelet-Rich Plasma is made from your own blood.

The procedure involves drawing several tubes of blood from you and then placing it in a centrifuge for varying amounts of time. The resulting product includes red blood cells at the bottom of the tube, plasma on top, and a layer in between called the buffy coat which contains platelets, stem cells, and some white blood cells. This buffy coat is then drawn up into a syringe, and after careful preparation and evaluation of the problem area using ultrasound, it
can be injected in a sterile fashion into a knee or shoulder joint, rotator cuff, or elbow tendon, and other body sites to help improve healing.

While still classified by the FDA as an experimental procedure, the use of PRP has become mainstream medicine and is performed in virtually every major medical center. For the appropriate candidate, it can sometimes relieve the need for surgery either temporarily or long-term. Individualized therapy, created by your body, is modified to help you heal. Injections of Platelet-Rich Plasma into the scalp have also been shown to improve hair growth, and interested patients are encouraged to research this more on their own, and discuss it with theprovider.

Tobacco use is a very complex problem and arguably one of the most important problems faced in medicine today. Virtually all tobacco users will suffer medical problems directly related to the habit. Ultrasound Vascular Screening

Many programs travel through the community and offer ultrasound vascular screening. These images are captured on a digital record and evaluated by physicians from afar. Our ultrasound vascular screening occurs during your physical examination, and the provider evaluates the procedure in real-time as it is being done. This procedure allows for a very individualized exam, with extra care to examine problem areas. We can evaluate your carotid arteries and your abdominal aorta and scan organs, including liver, gall bladder, kidneys, spleen, and pelvic organs. Additionally, a basic cardiac ultrasound or echocardiogram can be seen. This type of visualization of your internal structure can provide important new information.
